We get a lot of mail here at the church of burger time. Tech support requests aren't here because hopefully they've been solved with the brand spanking new How to Install the MAME on the ROMs page.

Oct 1999 scott bowler, california Sub: Burgertime I believe the third tenet is the most important, because this is where we learn the redemption and resurrection. I under stand that the negation of the negation results in an affirmation, but why is there a negation to begin with? Isn't it possible to have a pure affirmation?
pontifex maximus responds:
Think how truly boring life must have been in the garden of eden. For mankind to have any meaning or purpose that is higher than that of the animals (who I believe live in a state of grace regardless of their brutality to the weak and to prey), man must have free will. It is the choice to do good or to do evil that makes us interesting. If we had no choice, things would be predestined and there would be no hope for advancing our species. The Dogs, the pickles, the egg, they all represent not only this evil, but, on a purely biological level, the struggle between life and death. Negation and affirmation. Negating their negativity brings forth extended life and the chance to eventually move to the next level. The possibility of negation only makes the affirmation so much sweeter. |
